What we've been up to!

Easter Day at the beach

So... I've fallen off the face of the blogosphere for awhile... I thought I would update!

Poor Lil has been sick since October. Off again and off again our family has been through more than it's share of viruses. You name it, we've had it! We are vigilant in hand washing and antibacterial when we're out, but we still kept getting sick! I was sick of everyone being SICK! Lily was getting the worst of it- being the little one with a big brother in preschool.

We went to a Naturopath over a week ago and he advised the Wheat free-gluten free-dairy free- white flour free, soy free and sugar free diet. The idea is that bacteria feed on sugar, and anything that turns into sugar, so you starve the bacteria, and the sickness goes away. We dedicated ourselves to it for a week. This meant no milk, no cheese, no sweets, no crackers, pretzels, pasta, bread... almost nothing! It was so hard on the kids at first to not have milk and then they really missed all their snacks- but we stuck with it. We ate lots of fish, chicken, veggies, quinoa, brown rice, nuts and ate fruit occasionally. We drank water only. We dubbed it the "Jesus diet" because it seems like that is how Jesus ate back in the day (he knew what he was doing). We also did some Thyme Oil steams (10 drops of thyme oil in steaming water- breathing it in). 2 days into the diet the sickness in my house had drastically reduced. Like a miracle- the kids stopped coughing and so did Dave. This is after MONTHS of coughing. By day 3 there was no more green snot. AMAZING.

Then Lily caught another one. She got rotavirus. I know exactly where she got it (a restaurant bathroom, a sick naked baby- I'll spare you the details). Rotavirus is an UGLY UGLY sickness. We oughtta know, Isaiah got it TWICE. So, we are at the end of our first week of vomitting and severe diarhea. I am hoping and praying that it lets up soon. My poor baby girl has gotten so skinny!

It was a quiet Easter for us- really just keeping close to home. We took the kids to the beach for our own little Easter Egg hunt and a picnic. The kids got a little bit of candy and some goldfish crackers for the first time in a week and they were so happy! Unfortunately- being the beginner photographer that I am, I had my camera stopped down to 1.8 almost the whole time. So we have a whole lot of bokeh and not a lot of sharp pictures! I am really out of practice and need to stop using my point and shoot for awhile so I can get reaclimated to manual shooting on our Rebel. The beach was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous that day! Afterward, we came home washed off and ate our free range turkey, wild rice and brocolli. Still trying to stick to the diet but- don't know how much longer we can last!

Here are some pictures from the weekend. The kids are at such great ages. I just love that they are best friends. They fight a lot, but they love a lot too!
